My Background
As an undergraduate student at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, I was involved in several student activities and organizations that led me to be interested in working on a college campus. After graduating from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, I began graduate school here at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to obtain a degree in Educational Administration with an emphasis in Student Affairs. During my time on campus I worked as a graduate assistant for the Nebraska Union and interned with the Education Abroad Office. I began working full-time with the Education Abroad Office in January of 2018!
My Study/Work Abroad
I always knew that I wanted to study abroad in the Czech Republic during my time in college. Both sides of my family have Czech heritage and I was very interested to experience more of the culture and language. I finally got my chance during my last semester as an undergraduate student at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. I participated in the Nebraska Semester Abroad in Olomouc, Czech Republic with 23 other students from Kearney and UNL. We studied European history and culture with an emphasis on the Czech Republic. Through the program our group traveled throughout the Czech Republic and to many European cities. Some memorable experiences included traveling deep below ground to tour the salt mines of Krakow, Poland and exploring the winding alleyways of Venice, Italy. Once I caught the “travel bug” I knew that I wanted to go abroad again. In the summer of 2015, I had the chance to participate in a UNL faculty-led Education Abroad program to Turkey. This group traveled to two contrasting cities Erzurum in the east and Istanbul in the west where we learned about history, politics and economics.
My Ideal Next Travel Destination
I would love to explore more of Italy! I was able to spend a week there during my study abroad experience visiting the major cities, but there is always more to see. My hope is to visit some smaller towns in the Tuscany and Umbria regions. Other countries on my list include Croatia, Iceland and Ireland.
